Search Impressions

TL;DR
  • We picked 5 pages to target and rewrote all of them.
  • Keywords in Google's top 10 went from 301 to 409 in 4 months.
  • Impressions went from 14,801 a month to 18,683.
  • "dtf printing" moved from position 39 to position 7.
  • The main product page got 29% more clicks.

The Challenge

DTF Direct was a newer site. It hadn't had any SEO work done before we started.

One product page, DTF Transfers by Size, brought in 127 of its 351 search clicks a month. The DTF Supplies page got 1 click from 1,157 impressions.

Some keywords that people use to find a printer weren't working at all. "dtf printing" sat at position 39. "direct to film printing" sat at 47.

The opportunity was clear:

Give each target page its own set of keywords and rewrite the pages to match.

The Strategy

01

Pick the Pages

We chose 5 target pages. The homepage, DTF Transfers by Size, Bulk Buy and Save, Upload Your Own Gang Sheet and the DTF Supplies collection.

The supplies page went on the list at the owner's request. DTF Direct imports its supplies and holds bulk stock, so it wanted that page to sell more.

02

Keyword Research per Page

We did keyword research for each page and sent it for approval. The supplies page got terms like DTF film, DTF powder and DTF ink.

We kept the DTF keywords off the homepage. It went after broader terms instead. If 2 pages chase the same keyword, Google can treat them as too alike and rank neither.

03

Rewrite the Pages

We wrote the content in 2 rounds. The owner reviewed each one in a shared Google Doc before it went live. The homepage, DTF Transfers by Size and Bulk Buy and Save went live first. Upload Your Own Gang Sheet and DTF Supplies followed.

The first round also covered on-page changes, technical fixes and link building on the same priority pages.

The results

  • Keywords in Google's top 10 went from 301 to 409 in 4 months. That's up 36%.
  • Keywords in the top 3 went from 69 to 98. That's up 42%.
  • Impressions went from 14,801 a month to 18,683. That's up 26%.
  • Clicks went from 351 a month to 406. That's up 16%.
  • "dtf printing" moved from position 39 to 7. Clicks on it went from 2 a month to 21.
  • DTF Transfers by Size went from 127 clicks a month to 164. That's up 29%.

Strategic Takeaways

Give each page its own keywords. Keeping DTF terms off the homepage left them to the product pages.

Impressions move before clicks. More keywords in the top 10 shows up as impressions first.

Ask the owner which products matter. The supplies page was their call, and it moved from position 16 to 7 for "dtf supplies australia".

Final word

For DTF Direct, the work was 5 pages and a keyword plan for each one. In 4 months, 108 more keywords made it into Google's top 10.
